PBGFC helps FISHING TO HEAR
Posted On: 5/22/2007
Fishing to Hear is a Non Profit oganization formed to assist in raising funds to pay for cochlear implants in children that are born deaf. Fishing to Hear was formed to assist Kyle Couvillion, son of Venice, LA Charter Captain Darryl Couvillion, with a second cochlear implant to assist him in learning to hear. Kyle was born deaf. Through the miracle of a cochlear implant, Kyle began to learn what we all take for granted everyday. Insurance paid for the first implant, however, they consider a second implant a "luxury". That left the Couvillions with a bill of $80,000 to have the second implant done.
Fishing to Hear stemmed from several Venice Charter Captains offering to donate charters to help raise money for Kyle's second surgery. They decided to hold a fshing rodeo with over 20 captains donating trips that were to be raffled off with $20 tickets. Over a period of 3 months, over $80,000 was raised and Kyle is now hearing out of both ears and is speaking better every day. Pensacola Big Game Fishing Club made a $1000 donation at the Captains Meeting. The Fishing Rodeo will be an annual event with proceeds going to assist other children with the cost of a second cochlear implant.

Isle de Jean Charles Band of Chitimacha
Posted On: 4/23/2007
Several members from the PBGFC were responsible for helping with the Isle de Jean Charles Band of Chitimacha-Choctaw Indian Reservation in Montequt, LA, on December 22, 2006
Read the letter of appreciation from Chief George B. Dodge, Sr. below.
Please allow me to extend my deepest appreciation to all of you who came together in the final days prior to our departure for the Isle de Jean Charles Band of Chitimacha-Choctaw Indian Reservation in Montequt, LA, on December 22, 2006. Very special thanks to Billy Enfinger, who coordinated and arranged for the availability of a U-Save truck, gas money, survival supplies for over four hundred people and who loaded the truck with 1100 to 1200 pounds of good clothing from St. Vincent de Paul, (thank you Miles Maxted), drove the truck to LA and back and took photos of our visit. Our thanks go to Craig Ullrich who assisted Billy in loading all the supplies and who drove his SUV loaded with 6 Dell Pentium 4 Computers, over and back and even sprung for a meal for all five of us at Shoneys. What wonderful spirits you both are for assisting us in this way.
Special thanks also to the Pensacola Big Game Fishing Club, U-Save Truck Rental, the Mayoki Indian Fiesta Group, Bill and Lisa Robertson, Nancy Kilgo, Tina Morrison, Kathy Holmes, Mary Farris, Sue McClure, Terry Burris, Aurora C. Patterson ITSR, Bravo Battalion, Justin W. Georges ITSR, Alfa Battalion, Calvin Clayton Kukert CTRSR, Charlie Battalion, Richard Lee Vetzel, CTTSR of Delta Battalion, Bob & Claudia Coleman, Jane Garton, Laura Guthrie and Linda Delaney of the Corry Child Development Center. Many thanks to each and every one of you. A special thanks to Craig and Lorrie Ullrich for purchasing over $400 worth of bats, gloves, and little toy cars, dolls and a variety of other toys for the Indian children. Wanda, we really enjoyed that lunch you packed for us, too. I'm sure there are others I'm unaware of who have contributed to making a better Christmas for the kind and gentle spirits of Montegut, LA. They are a little better off this year than they were last year at this time and we're grateful for that. We have a long way to go before things are back to even close to normal but it helps them to know that we in Pensacola (three states away) care enough to make the effort for them. This is especially true when they know we were hit so hard by Ivan just a year before they were destroyed by Katrina and Rita. The effects of your generosity and human kindness are far reaching. You have touched the lives of human beings most of you have never met and will never know.

New Marlin Spearfishing Record.
Posted On: 12/15/2006
Robert Arrington of Jupiter is a free diver, photographer, and spear fisherman. He went to Panama to take pictures and do a little fishing. A huge Pacific Blue Marlin swam right by him. He grabbed his spear gun and shot it. "I'm looking at this fish going wow," Arrington said. It took four people to haul the monster fish into the boat. The marlin weighed 480 pounds and stretched more than eleven feet long. The stats doubled the old Blue Marlin spearfishing record set a year ago.

Posted On: 5/29/2005
The 2005 Pensacola International Billfish Tournament is rapidly approaching. Join us this year for one of the most exciting tournaments yet. Anglers will compete for an opportunity to draw for an additional $200,000. Our new category is called "High Fives". Each boat that reports a tagged billfish will be entered into a drawing. Two boat names will be drawn for an opportunity to come on stage at the Awards Banquet and draw for $100,000. Each boat representative drawing will be given 40 sealed envelopes from which to draw. They will open sealed envelopes drawn in random order until they have 5 matching awards. The top award being $100,000. Other awards include $10,000, $2,500 or a fine piece of fishing equipment. Each angler drawing is guaranteed to win one of the prize levels. All it takes to qualify is a properly reported and verified tagging of any Blue Marlin, White Marlin or Sailfish. There is no limit to the number of entries any one boat can have. You won't want to miss this year's Awards banquet.
